  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 29-27, 14-28, 46-43, 28-22 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    26 % Nishikori – 33 of 125
    38 % Djokovic – 43 of 112

Both semifinalists wore the ‘Uniqlo’ clothes… It was their 1st meeting since Basel ’11 when Nishikori stunned Djokovic 2-6, 7-6, 6-0… Nishikori led *5:3 in the 3rd set. He becomes the first Japanese male player in history to advance to a Grand Slam final. Three fellow JPN men lost the major semifinals in the interbellum:

    Ichiya Kumagae (US Open 1918)
    Zenzo Shimizu (Wimbledon 1920-21) *
Jiro Sato (Australian Open 1932, Roland Garros 1931, ’33 and Wimbledon 1932-33)

    * Shimizu actually won his 1920 semifinal, then lost an All-Comers final
