  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 44-40, 41-41, 23-32, 45-48 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    25 % Murray – 43 of 168
    30 % Lopez – 45 of 146

The tightest 4-setter won by Murray [4] and lost by Lopez [31]. Murray had no problem in 11 matches against Lopez, except that one on Luis Armstrong Stadium. Even though Lopez is a Top 5 player in terms of tie-breaks won in history, he lost all six against Murray. The Scot saved mini-set points in sets 1 and 4, but the Spaniard was the closest to win the 2nd set: he was two points away from the set already at 5:4 & 6:5, in the tie-break he led 4:1* and 5:3. In the 3rd set Murray led *4:2, but he began to hobble which cost him almost a 5-game losing streak. In the 4th set he saved break points in games: 1, 5, 11 – the last one after an amazing 23-stroke rally. The tie-breaks: 7/5, 7/5, 7/4. # Four years before Murray won a similar match against Del Potro.

    # Comparison of Murray’s similar 4-setters at US Open:
    2008 (QF): Murray d. DelPotro 7-6, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5… 3 hours 57 minutes… Total points: 154-149… (2, 3, 5 points away in “7” sets)
    2012 (3R): Murray d. F.Lopez 7-6, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6… 3 hours 53 minutes… Total points: 153-161… (2, 2, 3 points away in “7” sets)
