  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 33-27, 34-43, 37-29, 32-20 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    28 % Nadal – 32 of 112
    12 % Djokovic – 18 of 143

The 3-hour 43-minute match was halted by rain (for two hours) at 4-all in the 2nd set. Before it happened, Djokovic [3] had already led 4:1* (30-all). Up to that point, Nadal [1] had won 19 consecutive sets! “For the first time in my career, I played a very, very good match in this tournament,” said Nadal, who had never been past the semifinals at Flushing Meadows. “That’s my feeling, no? I played my best match in the U.S. Open at the most important moment.” Nonetheless, from start of the event he was serving better than ever, holding 62 times in a row; lost his serve just twice before the final (against Verdasco in the 1st set, against Youzhny in the 3rd set). By the age of 24 years, 3 months and 10 days, Nadal had won all four majors and Olympic gold medal (career “Golden Grand Slam”), making him the youngest player to achieve this feat in the Open Era. It’s really something he can be proud of comparing himself to Federer and Djokovic. Soon after the US Open triumph, Nadal suffered arguably the strangest defeat of his career (Bangokok) where he was unable to convert any of 16 break points in three successive games.

Nadal’s route to his 42nd (first US Open) title:
    1 Teymuraz Gabashvili 7-6(4), 7-6(4), 6-3
    2 Denis Istomin 6-2, 7-6(5), 7-5
    3 Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-4, 6-2
    4 Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 6-4, 6-4
    Q Fernando Verdasco 7-5, 6-3, 6-4
    S Mikhail Youzhny 6-2, 6-3, 6-4
    W Novak Djokovic 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2
