  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 41-34, 45-44, 31-37, 37-34 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    25 % Murray – 36 of 144
    19 % Del Potro – 31 of 159

Very interesting match between two young & upcoming players who reached new levels at the time: the 20-year-old Del Potro [17] was on a 23-match winning streak (longest in his career) while one year older Murray [6] had recently won his first big event (Cincinnati). The Scot easily won the tie-breaks (7/2 & 7/1) and led *3:1 in the 3rd set against the opponent who needed a medical time-out to his left knee between the first two sets. At 4:3* (40/15) Murray squandered a double mini-match point. Del Potro won five straight games, Murray three, Del Potro two, and he led with a break again in the 4th set. Murray conserved more energy for the last stage of the 4th set and clinched the almost 4-hour match on his second match point with the help of three consecutive slices. Four years later Murray wins almost an identical match in terms of the scoreline against Feliciano Lopez (on Luis Armstrong stadium) blowing a 4:2 lead in the 3rd set.
