Connors’ last win over Lendl and his last title in almost five years (another one: Washington ’88). The 32-year-old American  was still at the top of his game while the eight years younger Lendl  quite fresh after his first Grand Slam title & very eager to dethrone John McEnroe. As Connors led 3:2* in the 2nd set, he lost four straight games, then won six in a row. After the US Open ’84 Lendl began to experiment with a new diet and lost 4 kg within two months… Connors will lose another 17 (!) matches to Lendl (years 1984-1992).
