  1. Voo de Mar says:
Points won directly behind the serve:
    30 % Hewitt – 24 of 80
    18 % Grosjean – 15 of 82

The first two sets of this 1-hour 55-minute duel (six minutes longer than their round robin match) were one-sided throughout. In the 3rd set Grosjean [7] had a mini set point at 4:3, but made a casual forehand error & Hewitt [2] grabbed the last three games. For the third time in the tournament history, players who faced each other in their opening match, repeated it in the final (1981 & 2000). “He was hitting so deep, I had to try and be aggressive. And then I made far too many mistakes,” said Grosjean. During the event, Hewitt became the youngest player to finish the season as the number 1, overcoming Jimmy Connors’ record of 1974:
    – Hewitt 20 years 8 months
    – Connors 22 years 3 months

Hewitt’s route to his 12th title:
    rr. Sebastien Grosjean 3-6, 6-2, 6-3
    rr. Andre Agassi 6-3, 6-4
    rr. Patrick Rafter 7-5, 6-2
    S Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-4, 6-3
    W Sebastien Grosjean 6-3, 6-3, 6-4
