Arguably the most impressive title from Ivanisevic [8]. Over the course of his career, he needed tie-breaks to win titles or to get the finals, but that time he just played one comfortable tie-break within the week. In the semifinal he was lucky because Kajicek strained tendon in his knee in the opening point of the match! The one-sided scoreline in the final was quite shocking because at the time Edberg [3] was still among the best players in the world and had defeated the Croat on the same court a year before. Ivanisevic’s clinical performance, he was not only serving tremendously well, his volleys & ground-strokes were excellent too. Apart from losing the serve at *4:3 in the opener, he won all his service games easily enjoying big support of the Croatian fans.
Ivanisevic’s route to his 5th title:
2 Gianluca Pozzi 6-2, 6-4
3 Christo van Rensburg 6-4, 6-4
Q Paul Haarhuis 7-6(1), 6-3
S Richard Krajicek 6-3, 1-0 ret.
W Stefan Edberg 6-4, 6-2, 6-4
