Points won by each set: | 30-27, 25-5 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
24 % Hewitt – 10 of 41
17 % Stoltenberg – 8 of 46
An all-Australian final between players of two different generations. The 11 years younger Hewitt [21] defeated his future coach for the third time in a row dropping just four games (6-1, 6-3 in Adelaide ’99 and 6-2, 6-2 in Adelaide ’00), but in the Sydney final, Stoltenberg [94] created an outlook to win a set – at 4-all in the opener he led on return 30/15 when tried to play a forehand winner and missed not by much, in the following game he had a point to level at 5 games apiece. For the 19-year-old Hewitt it was the second title of 2000 in the first two weeks of the season (a wekk before he triumphed in Adelaide).
Hewitt’s route to his 4th title:
1 Sebastien Grosjean 6-4, 6-4
2 Francisco Clavet 6-3, 6-2
Q Adrian Voinea 6-3, 6-4
S Alex Corretja 6-4, 6-4
W Jason Stoltenberg 6-4, 6-0
