Points won by each set: | 35-27, 41-33 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
53 % Shapovalov – 29 of 54
19 % Krajinovic – 16 of 82
The first title in career of the 20-year-old Canadian [34] of Russian origin. Shapovalov delivered a superb service performance, a la Sampras. Krajinovic [60] managed to create a break point at 2:1 in the 2nd set but it quickly evaporated. Other very talented player born at the end of the 20th Century – Tsitsipas – won his maiden title at the same age on the same court, a year before after the same scoreline. “I am definitely super happy and just really proud,” said Shapovalov. “Me and my team have worked really hard to get into this position of lifting a title, so I am really proud of myself and proud of my team right now.” It was a great opportunity for both finalists: Shapovalov was playing his first ATP final (had lost 7 semifinals) while the 7 years older Krajinovic appeared in a final for the third time. ”This tournament started the year my mom was born, so it has got a great history and it is amazing to be the first Canadian to win it,” said Shapovalov. “I have seen all the amazing names up on the board, so it will be nice to see my name up there as well.”
Shapovalov’s route to his maiden title (62nd event at main-level):

Q Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 6-0, 6-3
S Yuichi Sugita 7-5, 6-2
