  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 36-35, 32-25, 32-24 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    34 % Lopez – 30 of 87
    18 % Youzhny – 18 of 97

Youzhny [35] led 4:2* in the 2nd set. At 4:3 (15/0) he was involved in a very demanding rally running all over the place and it cost him a lot of energy – he lost quickly four straight games afterwards. In the decider Lopez led 5:2*, but committed two double faults serving to win the match; in the following game he broke the Russian to ’30’ converting his first match point. The 33-year-old Lopez reached his career-high (No. 14 – the following year he’d improve to No. 12) thanks to that victory… two years before he was ranked 15. Both guys had played the most main-level tournaments among active players at the time (not counting semi-retired Nikolay Davydenko): Youzhny – 333, Lopez – 322. Youzhny’s sixth & last quarterfinal loss at the Masters 1K level: Hamburg ’04, Paris ’04 & ’07, Cincinnati ’05, Miami ’10 and Shanghai ’14. In the first of those quarterfinals he was also two games away from a straight set victory (lost to Ljubicic).
