  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 40-31, 37-31 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    26 % Costa – 15 of 57
    19 % Korda – 16 of 82

Costa [15] already led 5:1* (30-all) in the 2nd set vs Korda [9], but needed four match points in the last game to reach the only ‘Mercedes 9’ final of his career. The 24-year-old Costa notched one of the most impressive improvements in a short period given the Open Era. It happened during the springtime of 1992: just within two months he jumped from No. 56 to No. 10, winning on clay 27 out of 32 matches! In the meantime he won back-to-back titles in Estoril & Barcelona, reached the finals in Madrid (equivalent of ATP 500) & Rome, as well as the semifinal in Hamburg and the fourth round at Roland Garros when his amazing form evaporated and never returned (after he lost to Ivanisevic 3-6, 6-4, 1-6, 1-6).
