    Points won by each set: | 36-29, 30-20 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    39 % Djokovic – 21 of 53
    27 % Federer – 17 of 62

Their 39th meeting (Federer leads 20-19). The Swiss loses the Italian Open final for the fourth time (2003, 2006, 2013 & 2015) while Djokovic wins it for the fourth time (2008, 2011, 2014-15) edging Federer in numbers of Masters 1K titles 24-23… At 4-all in the opening set, Federer had a break point but after a 20-stroke rally the Serbian forced a backhand error & won five consecutive games since then. Djokovic has now won 22 straight matches which is his third best streak. “The fact that I have managed to win so many matches in a row gives me a reason to believe I can do it again,” said Djokovic. “I want to keep going as long as I can. I don’t want to think fear or everything else can be an obstacle and interrupt this streak.”

His route to the 53rd title:
    2 Nicolas Almagro 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3
    3 Thomaz Bellucci 5-7, 6-2, 6-3
    Q Kei Nishikori 6-3, 3-6, 6-1
    S David Ferrer 6-4, 6-4
    W Roger Federer 6-4, 6-3
