  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 47-41, 30-18 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
    20 % Nadal – 11 of 55
    20 % Ferrer – 17 of 81

Nadal’s [3] fifth triumph in the Italian Open after a windy final which was interrupted by rain a couple of times. In the 1st set Ferrer [17] was playing his best tennis, yet it wasn’t enough to win it. At 2-all he held after 10 minutes saving four break points, and led 5:4* (30/0) – then made a costly error netting Nadal’s normal second serve, before that moment Ferrer had returned all Nadal’s second serves. After the second rain delay at the beginning of the 2nd set, they came back on the court under the floodlights and Nadal felt much comfortable winning the set easily. “It’s important to have the motivation to want to keep improving. That’s the main thing,” Nadal said. “That’s how it’s been all my career, all my life, and I still do it. I love to play tennis.”

Nadal’s route to his 38th title:
    2 Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-1, 6-3
    3 Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-2
    Q Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 6-1
    S Ernests Gulbis 6-4, 3-6, 6-4
    W David Ferrer 7-5, 6-2
