    Points won by each set: | 10-26, 23-36, 30-24, 43-33, 39-33 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    20 % Agassi – 28 of 138
    33 % Medvedev – 53 of 159

The only bald-final in the Open Era 😉 Despite 10 years spent on tour together, it was barely their second and last meeting (the first one at New Haven ’93 was won by Medvedev 7-6, 3-6, 6-4). Agassi saved a mini-match point at 4-all in the 3rd set – after two consecutive double faults, he hit the line on his second serve & won the point with a volley winner!

Agassi’s route to his 41st title:
    1 Franco Squillari 3-6, 7-5, 7-5, 6-3
    2 Arnaud Clement 6-2, 4-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-0
    3 Chris Woodruff 6-4, 6-4, 6-3
    4 Carlos Moya 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, 6-1
    Q Marcelo Filippini 6-2, 6-2, 6-0
    S Dominik Hrbaty 6-4, 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-4
    W Andrei Medvedev 1-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4

This was a really strange match. The first two sets were a complete nightmare for Agassi and he lost them in less than an hour. I think he also struggled with the conditions, because it was chilly, windy and rainy and he looked very uncomfortable. After a short rain-delay it got sunnier and less windy and suddenly Agassi was another tennis player! The sets 3, 4 and 5 were very good and competitive, in my memory at least. What a disappointment for Medvedev: A Grand Slam tournament victory would have been well-deserved for him as well!
