  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 30-21, 29-15, 29-24 ]
    Points won directly on serve:
    20 % Muster – 15 of 74
    22 % Kafelnikov – 17 of 74

A fast-paced match. Kafelnikov [9], the usually solid baseliner, couldn’t deal with Muster’s regularity from the back of the court. The Russian was completely outplayed in two sets, thus he changed his game-style from the beginning of the 3rd set – began applying the serve-and-volley tactics behind each serve, also attacking the net frequently in Muster’s service games. This tactics was almost successful as he led 4:3* (40/30) – then Muster won the longest rally (21 strokes) of the semifinal, finishing it with a forehand winner. In the following game the Russian led 30/0 – at that moment he had won 18 out of 22 points on serve with his offensive attitude, but Muster [5] managed to get four straight points and easily served the match out. Kafelnikov will be similarly destroyed in a Grand Slam semifinal six years later at the US Open losing a one-minute shorter encounter to Hewitt.
