  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 24-7, 35-37, 44-36, 35-29 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    21 % Medvedev – 24 of 110
    20 % Edberg – 28 of 137

Two-day, bizarre match on Centre Court. Edberg [3] had won four consecutive matches against Medvedev [12], also on clay two months before, so he could be perceived as a favourite by many, but the 19-year-old Ukrainian, playing his first major quarterfinal, dealt much better with heavy conditions. Edberg needed 20 minutes to play his first winner on a very slow court, after dropping the initial seven games quickly! He trailed 2:4* and 4:5 in the 2nd set when the match was suspended due to rain, and again at 5-all. On the following day Edberg was playing much better than a day before, but the rainy bagel was crucial in the end. In the last two sets Edberg led 5:4* & 4:3* before losing three straight games. Medvedev’s lobs were the key to his victory, but Edberg also contributed at the end, missing two overheads at 4-all from the positions he was usually hitting winners.
