Points won by each set: | 27-17, 37-28, 41-35 |
Points won directly on serve:
25 % Agassi – 22 of 85
11 % Roldan – 11 of 100
Very comprehensive Agassi’s [11] win in his first Grand Slam quarterfinal. Before the match their chances (both teenagers) seemed quite balanced because Roldan [17] was in a form of his life. He won Munich, then lost a marathon in the Rome final to Ivan Lendl. The Argentinian improved with every set, but generally he couldn’t deal with Agassi’s power throughout the match, also had big problems with Agassi’s wide-out serve on ad-court (delivered from an extreme position in the corner). A few months later they meet in a dead Davis Cup rubber in Argentina and Agassi wins 2-6, 6-2, 8-6 saving four match points. Three years later Roldan takes a revenge defeating Agassi 6-0, 6-7, 7-6 in Barcelona facing two match points.
