27 % Cecchinato – 31 of 114

Cecchinato [72], the lowest ranked player in the French Open semifinal since 1999 (Medvedev) after three sensational wins over Carreno, Goffin & Djokovic, and the first Italian since 1978 (Barazzutti) in the last four of a Grand Slam event. I hadn’t expected that he would have created chances to win a set, something like 6-3 6-4 6-1 seemed more probable, but he played good tennis in his first match on Philippe Chatrier being 4 and 1 points away from winning the first two sets: he led 5:4* in the 1st set, and had three set points in the 2nd set tie-break (7:6, 9:8 & *10:9) – Thiem [8] saved the first two with service winners, and the third one with a BH dropshot after 12-stroke rally. The 12/10 tie-break was quite amazing between 1:0 & 6:5 – there were 9 winners in a row!
