  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 36-35, 23-37, 26-12, 30-33, 53-47 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    18 % Robredo – 29 of 155
    19 % Safin – 35 of 177

Robredo finished his career a few days ago, it encouraged me to watch one of his finest moments as far as majors are concerned. The 23-year-old Spaniard notched one of his most important wins on Philippe Chatrier court against Safin [4] who was an Aussie Open champion then. Robredo [16] came back from a 2:4* deficit in the opener, trailed 4:5 (0/30) and was three points away from defeat serving at 4:5 & 5:6 in the decider. It was a year of the first Nadal’s triumph in Paris, he was a heavy favorite to get the title, nevertheless Safin was among favorites as a former French Open semifinalist… I’d say it’s one of Robredo’s four most valuable Grand Slam wins (along with Hewitt/Kuerten at Roland Garros ’03 and Federer at US Open ’13), certainly the most dramatic one (lasted 3 hours 50 minutes)… The Spaniard has finished his career with one of the best five-set records of the Open Era: 17-5 (77%).

    Serve & volley: Robredo 0, Safin 5/13
