   The first Roland Garros final (the Open Era) played between two left-handers. Nadal saved three set points in the 4th set, Puerta already led 5:4 (40/15) on serve. Puerta was playing the event under illegal substances… The final lasted 3 hours 20 minutes – the third consecutive more than 3-hour match of the Argentinian, who had defeated Canas & Davydenko in back-to-back duels before the final. Nadal & Puerta faced each other for the second time in a French final, two years before it took place in Aix-en-Provence, and Puerta defeated the 17-year-old Nadal 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 saving a match point in the 2nd set tie-break.
