  1. Voo de Mar says:
Points won directly behind the serve:
    15 % Gaudio – 13 of 82
    8 % Nalbandian – 10 of 114

It was the only match between two Argentinians, who spent nine years on tour together. Nalbandian the favorite, known for his consistency, had two weird lapses of concentration being ahead. In the 1st set it occurred as he led 3-all (40/15) – committed a double fault then, and lost three straight games (four in total); in turn in the 2nd set he built seemingly an insurmountable lead 5:1* (30-all), yet Gaudio managed to win five straight games (saving two set points in the 10th game). Nalbandian fell apart after such an unexpected turnaround, and didn’t show anything interesting in the 3rd set winning just 7 points… During the tie-break took place an unusual situation, namely at *5:2 for Gaudio, Nalbandian went to the ‘deuce’ court instead of the ‘ad-court’ to receive. Neither Gaudio nor the umpire Andreas Egli noticed the incorrect position of Nalbandian, who lost the point & quickly realized the mistake, which actually he caused himself; nevertheless he wanted to replay the point – in vain – Gaudio served for the second time in a row to the ‘deuce’ court leading 6:2 & won the tie-break 7/5.
