Absolutely amazing performance from Verkerk on Suzanne Lenglen. The 25-year-old Dutchman entered the contest as a total underdog with an attitude to enjoy every moment of the special occasion. It’s really astonishing that he kept high intensity of hitting the ball and celebrating it with different gestures and facial expressions throughout the almost 4-hour match. Trailing two-sets-to-love, Moya saved break points at 2-all & 3-all, and he was two points away from victory in two different games of the decider – at 5:4 (deuce) Verkerk fired an ace, at 6:5 (30-all) Verkerk played a brilliant serve-and-volley, obtaining the point with a difficult BH stop-volley. The last game of the match was the shortest – Verkerk didn’t show any sign of insecurity serving for the biggest result in his career – three service winners & ace made the job in just one minute!
