  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: [ 28-19, 36-23, 32-17 ]
    Points won directly on serve:
    17 % Safin – 12 of 67
    12 % Grosjean – 11 of 88

Grosjean [10] disappointed the home crowd with his performance. Two years before he’d played a thriller against Safin at the US Open, and had won their only previous match on clay, so the French supporters could think about an upset. Grosjean had some physical issues, he took a medical time-out between the first two sets and once he was broken leading 40/0 in the third game of the 2nd set it was a one-way traffic to the end. Safin [2] fought off the only break he faced with a perfect FH-dropshot. He defeated Grosjean with an unexpected ease, then in a surprisingly bad style he lost the semifinal to Ferrero. One year later Grosjean loses very similar major quarterfinal to Agassi.

    Serve & volley: Safin 1/1, Grosjean 1/1
