The Czech Open ’98 it’s one of very few Open Era tournaments deprived of seeded players in the quarter-finals. The local favorite Dosedel [47] eventually reached the final enjoying a comeback event: in the first round he beat Sjeng Schalken saving a match point (2-6, 7-6, 6-1), against Diaz [105] trailed 0:4* (15/40) in 2nd set & eiminated Nicolas Lapentti in the semifinal 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 erasing a *1:3 deficit in the 2nd set. In the final Dosedel lost 1-6, 4-6 to Fernando Meligeni.
Diaz, a short man from Spain, drifted between Challengers & ATP Tour in years 1997-2002 reaching career-high 62 in 2001. He only played 3 ATP quarter-finals (all on clay-courts), the one in Prague marked his second.
