    # In the first of their three five-setters, Sampras was close to win every set: in the 1st one he blew a double set point at 5:4*, in the 4th a mini-match point at 5-all (there was also 5-all in the tie-break). In the 5th set Sampras was never in danger in his nine service games, he already had two match points at 5:4* and another two at 8:7. In the last game of this semifinal he broke the Croat at ‘love’.
