One year after beating Nalbandian (6-3 6-2) at the Canadian Open, Roddick defeated the Argentine easily in the same tournament again, but in a different city. The American [7] entered the best period of his career – after triumph in Montreal, he claimed the titles in Cincinnati & US Open which allowed him to become the best player in the world. Nalbandian [21] broke the only time trailing 0:1 in the 2nd set. For him it was a breakthrough tournament as well. He waited more than one year for another big final (following Wimbledon). A few weeks after the Canadian final he almost avenged defeat in straight sets of the US Open semifinal.

Q Karol Kucera 7-6(5), 6-3
S Roger Federer 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3)
