The main favorite to the title (after expected withdrawal of Zverev) confirmed that he’s already on a different level than the rest of the boys, going through the event unbeaten, however, being forced to play much more tie-breaks than the last year’s champion Chung. The Greek grabbed 9 out of 11 tie-breaks he played within five days (Chung’s record was 5-3). “It feels great. I’ve been playing some great tennis this week here in Milan,” Tsitsipas said after the final. “It was a fantastic match. I stayed calm although I had a chance twice to win the match, but remained calm. I was aiming to win that match. I was mentally very strong and that was proven in the tie-break in the last set.” De Minaur saved double match point in the game preceding the 4th set TB… Shapovalov [27], who could be seeded No. 2, had pulled out a few days before the event kicked off due to exhaustion after the long season, Hurkacz replaced him.
