27 % Nadal – 18 of 65
Twelve years after their very dramatic final in Miami, Federer [6] triumphed again, this time after much easier match. Nadal [7] had break points in 3 out of Federer’s first 4 service games. From that moment to the end the Swiss held quite easily, but it wasn’t a day in which the serve helped him a lot, simply his forehand was awesome. Federer got breaks in both sets at the end to have beaten the Mallorcan for the third time this year. Nadal has never won the Miami title despite five final appearances (2005, 2008, 2011, 2014, 2017). Federer has won six events saving match points, however, two titles he obtained when a match point he faced, didn’t mean for him an elimination from a tournament (two “Masters” titles, 2003 & 2006). “The comeback is over,” Federer said. “I’m happy that nothing major happened throughout this period. It’s been a dream run on the court, off the court as well. My body has reacted very well and I couldn’t be happier, of course.” Now the Swiss player plans to take a two-month break until the French Open.
Federer’s route to his 91st title:
2 Francis Tiafoe 7-6(2), 6-3
3 Juan Martin del Potro 6-3, 6-4
4 Roberto Bautista 7-6(5), 7-6(4)
Q Tomas Berdych 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(6) – 2 m.p.
S Nick Kyrgios 7-6(9), 6-7(9), 7-6(5)
W Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4
