   Weird tournament for the 27-year-old Russian [4]. He barely survived the first three rounds, then played tennis of his life in following three matches (he will be playing even better tennis over the course of years 2009-10) outplaying Nadal [2] in the final in 1 hour 23 minutes (losing just two points on serve in the 2nd set!). “Second time to win Masters Series, it’s like for me something important,” said Davydenko. “Fighting every match, you know, beat Nadal in the final, first time in my career. My tennis was so good today. I think it’s the best tennis of the hard-court season. Here Nadal was favourite, and also in semi-final Roddick was the favorite. Just to beat two guys in two sets is like amazing for me.”

   Davydenko was one point away from losing in round two (MP at *4:5 in 3rd set), five points away in round three (saved three mini-MPs at 5-all in 2nd set) & six points away in round four (there was 5-all, 30-all in 3rd set, after the Russian failed to serve out the match at 5:4).
