  1. Voo de Mar says:
The last ‘best of five’ final in history of Masters 1000 (Mercedes Super 9)!

    Points won by each set: [ 27-17, 36-24, 33-28 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
    19 % Djokovic – 19 of 96
    20 % Canas – 14 of 69

March ’07 it was the best period for these two players separated by ten years – the 30-year-old Canas [55] enjoyed defeating the invincible Federer in back-to-back events while Djokovic [10] advanced to two consecutive Masters 1K finals, destroying i.a. Andy Murray on both occasions. The Indian Wells-Miami ’07 combo indicated that Djokovic would be a leading force in men’s tennis along with Nadal & Federer in the years to come…
The first two sets of the Miami final were lopsided in terms of the scoreline, but both sets had their crucial moments that could make an impact on the games to follow. At 2:1* (30/0) in the opener, Canas lost a point because of his alleged foot fault and that decision of the linesman distracted his concentration (he lost at love two consecutive games). At *3:2 for Djokovic in the 2nd set, occurred an 8-deuce game, the Serb saved three break points, the first of them hitting the edge of the sideline with his forehand. The Argentinian led 4:3* (30-all) in the 3rd set when Djokovic took the next three games finishing the event with two winners (backhand passing-shot and forehand down the line). “When you play a final nothing is easy,” said Djokovic – the youngest champion of the tournament. “I played unbelievable tennis in Indian Wells and here. It was the best tennis of my life. I didn’t lose a set. I’m always comparing myself to the best players in the world because that is what I want to be one day.” Canas stated: “If he continues like this he will be one of the top three players very, very soon.”

Djokovic’s route to his 4th title:
    2 Daniele Bracciali 7-6(4), 6-4
    3 Michael Llodra 6-4, 6-1
    4 Feliciano Lopez 6-0, 6-3
    Q Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4
    S Andy Murray 6-1, 6-0
    W Guillermo Canas 6-3, 6-2, 6-4

    # Comparison of Djokovic’s two ‘best of 5’ finals with the same game difference by each set:
    Miami 2007: Djokovic d. Canas 6-3, 6-2, 6-4… 2 hours 20 minutes… Total points: 96-69 (four breaks)…
    A.Open 2011: Djokovic d. Murray 6-4, 6-2, 6-3.. 2 hours 39 minutes… Total points: 106-78 (ten breaks)…
