   Kiefer [6] played tennis of his life in 1999, but his second meeting vs Sampras [5] almost copied their first encounter a year before in Stuttgart (6-3, 6-4). The 22-year-old German created a small chance to break Sampras [5] only at 3:2 (30/0) in the 2nd set when he missed Sampras’ second serve with his risky forehand return. The American should have won the opener 6-1 but on a break point at 4:1 he broke his strings trying to finish the point with a slam-dunk smash and lost a 6-deuce game wasting five chances in total.
