Nadal  having already claimed all Grand Slam titles, Olympic Gold Medal & Davis Cup title, was one set away from a fulfilment at the age of 24, as far as the most important trophies are concerned, however, Federer  was in tremendous form that week in London; he’d won four matches on route to the final without dropping a set. After an impressive service game Nadal levelled at one game apiece in the 3rd set, when the match suddenly slipped away from him. Federer finished it on his second match point with a mishit forehand winner on the baseline. Federer, who picked up a cheque for just over $1m for his week’s work, said: “I’ve really enjoyed playing here, it’s been a wonderful atmosphere once again. Rafa’s had an amazing year, one any player dreams of.” It was the first season-ending championship match of two unbeaten players at the ’round robin’ stage >since 1993.
