  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 18-28, 34-32, 25-21 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
    34 % Ivanisevic – 29 of 84
    48 % Sampras – 36 of 74

Super fast three-set match at night session. A time when they both were at the top of their games, so it was very surprising that Ivanisevic [6] had no chance in the opener. His serve simply deserted him, he had only 30% of the 1st serve in, when the rain came as he trailed *0:1 (30/15) in the 2nd set. After the resumption he lost the first two points, but saved a break point with an ace, and regained his service rhythm. More challenging for him was a game at 2:3 – then he needed to save three break points, and he did it in his characteristic style: service winner & two aces (the first ace off the 2nd serve). It was a crucial game, avoiding a potential 2-6, 3-6 defeat, the Croat felt more comfortable as a receiver and broke Sampras [2] at 3-all. He repeated it at the same score in the deciding set… They played against each other eight times deciding sets, and it’s the only case when Ivanisevic left the court as a winner.

    Serve & volley: Ivanisevic 5/8, Sampras 6/12
