Super fast three-set match at night session. A time when they both were at the top of their games, so it was very surprising that Ivanisevic had no chance in the opener. His serve simply deserted him, he had only 30% of the 1st serve in, when the rain came as he trailed *0:1 (30/15) in the 2nd set. After the resumption he lost the first two points, but saved a break point with an ace, and regained his service rhythm. More challenging for him was a game at 2:3 – then he needed to save three break points, and he did it in his characteristic style: service winner & two aces (the first ace off the 2nd serve). It was a crucial game, avoiding a potential 2-6, 3-6 defeat, the Croat felt more comfortable as a receiver and broke Sampras at 3-all. He repeated it at the same score in the deciding set… They played against each other eight times deciding sets, and it’s the only case when Ivanisevic left the court as a winner.
