Pivotal match in their rivalry. Prior to 1990, Becker had won all their three matches, and after 25 minutes of the IW semifinal he could have expected the fourth straight win as he led 4:2* (30-all). Then happened something very unusual – Agassi broke the powerful serving German almost five times in a row! There was 5:0* (40/15) in the 2nd set when Becker’s second serve landed (at least officially) on the line… Agassi was somehow able to read Becker’s serve better than anyone else, and defeated him in 8 consecutive meetings (pretty comfortably in seven), the third match in the streak 8 months later was almost identical #
# Comparison of their two ‘best of three’ semifinals of 1990:
Ind. Wells: Agassi d. Becker 6-4, 6-1… 1 hour 8 minutes… Total points: 61-42
Frankfurt: Agassi d. Becker 6-2, 6-4… 1 hour 18 minutes… Total points: 62-41
