Points won directly behind the serve:
    34 % Haarhuis – 24 of 70
    23 % Ivanisevic – 16 of 69

The 30-year-old Haarhuis came to Indian Wells having lost three consecutive matches & survived a tough first round encounter (6-7 6-2 7-5 over Diego Nargiso) to enjoy the tournament of his life afterwards: the Dutch doubles specialist won another four matches, defeating three Top 10 players (!) – Thomas Enqvist, No. 1 in the world Pete Sampras & Ivanisevic, who was in the form of his life at the time, entering the semifinal on a 13-match winning streak… but he couldn’t play against Haarhuis (the Dutchman led 5:3 in their H2H before the IW confrontation).
In the 2nd set tie-break, Ivanisevic came back from *2:5 & served an ace at 6:5, but a linesman called ‘foot fault’ & it distracted the Croat, who made three casual errors to lose tie tie-break 6/8… Haarhuis was beaten in the final by Michael Chang in straight sets; Haarhuis’s record 1-6 in ATP finals then, he added another final to his resume two years later.
