Montanes [35] waited very long for his maiden title (he did it on his fifth attempt), once he broke the negative streak, he opened a good one – five straight finals went under his belt. That second title was achieved in very dramatic circumstances. One point separated Blake [16] from a tight two-set win. He had saved mini-set points in both sets and created a double match point leading 5:4. Like many times in his career he chocked then; on both MPs he couldn’t keep in the court Montanes’ standard second serves with his backhand sending them outside. At 6-all in the tie-break Montanes passed Blake with his backhand and the very tight match turned into a one-way traffic. Nonetheless Blake had game points in all his three service games of the decider.

Montanes’ route to his 2nd title:
1 Ryan Sweeting 6-1, 7-6(4)
2 Simon Greul 6-2, 6-2
Q Gilles Simon 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(4) – 1 m.p.
S Paul Capdeville 6-3, 6-4
W James Blake 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-0 – 2 m.p.
