Perhaps the best week in Berdych’s career given valuable players he defeated and the style in which he did it – losing just three games in back-to-back matches against Kohlschreiber & Verdasco it’s really impressive. In the final, the Czech faced two adv. mini-match points at 4-all in the 2nd set, saved them both with service winners (out-wide & down the T). In the final set he won five straight games from 1-all against the frustrated Cilic . Berdych defeated Cilic for the second time in Asia saving mini-match points, previously he saved five beating the Croat 7-6 3-6 6-4 in Shanghai ’09… They will play another final against each other in Rotterdam ’14, with Berdych a winner again, that time easier.
Berdych’s route to his 6th title:
1 Jurgen Melzer 7-5, 7-5
2 Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-2, 6-0
Q Fernando Verdasco 6-1, 6-0
S Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-4, 4-6, 6-1
W Marin Cilic 3-6, 6-4, 6-1
