Points won directly behind the serve:
    36 % Federer – 33 of 90
    18 % Nadal – 17 of 90

Their 34th meeting (Nadal leads 23-11). Federer [3] waited more than three years to beat his toughest opponent once again (Nadal had won their five meetings in the meantime). The Swiss was three points away from winning the final in straight sets at 5:4* in the 2nd set. In the decider he got the decisive break at 4:3 and converted his second match point. Nadal [7] trailed 1-6 *3:5 in the first round vs Lukas Rosol (1-6 7-5 7-6)… “My goal is to get back to my level and be competitive against the top players again and today I was very competitive against one of the best players in the world,” said Nadal. “The match wasn’t far away from me. He played well and I played well too. The match was very close to win, but I think he served very well in the third. I want to congratulate him for the victory and I had a lot of quality things in my game and mental side to take away from the week.”

Federer’s route to his 88th title (7th in Basel):
    1 Mikhail Kukushkin 6-1, 6-2
    2 Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 4-6, 6-4
    Q David Goffin 6-3, 3-6, 6-1
    S Jack Sock 6-3, 6-4
    W Rafael Nadal 6-3, 5-7, 6-3

Federer has gathered 40% of his titles in just five cities:
    Halle – 8 titles
Dubai, Wimbledon (London), Cincinnati & Basel – 7 titles
