   Memorable 3-hour 59-encounter concluded past midnight, between two former doubles partners and the best players in the world of the previous three years (Courier – 1992, Sampras 1993-94) due to Sampras’ emotional breakdown [ his coach Tim Gullikson was hospitalised a week before (he’ll die in 1996)… ] No breaks of serve in the first two sets. Sampras trailed *2:4 in the 4th set when he managed to win five games in a row. As Sampras led 4:3* in the 5th set, Courier blew five game points before losing his serve and the match in the following game (Sampras took the final seven points). SamPe will beat Courier after similar match one year later in Paris.
