Points won by each set: | 27-16, 31-19, 30-28 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
31 % Edberg – 24 of 76
29 % Muster – 22 of 75
Edberg [4] totally owned Muster [10] and that night session match at Melbourne Park led to quite strange 10-0 H2H record between them. Such a one-sided encounter wasn’t absolutely expected because Muster had destroyed his all four opponents before, including Volkov to whom had lost very dramatic match at the US Open 93. But against Edberg, the Austrian was helpless, already after 40 minutes the favorite led 6-2, 3:0* – then started to rain and the roof was activated. After the resumption Muster changed his tactics, instead of keeping the ball with very high percentage of 1st serve he began serving much faster than usually and the match was balanced to the end, but Edberg took the final three games easily as he trailed *3:4 in the 3rd set.
Edberg and Muster were supposed to face each other in the Aussie Open quarterfinal already five years before,
but the Swede withdrew due to lower back injury he’d suffered in the last game of his fourth round win (6-4, 6-0, 6-2) over Cash
