   After two rain-interruptions, Vilas [3] defended his title overcoming a powerful server Sadri [84] for whom it was the biggest success in his career. The Argentinian led on serve 4:3 (30-all) in the opener when a woman fainted in the stands which caused a 4-minute break; it distracted Vilas’ service rhythm, forcing him to save two break points. Sadri broke back at 4:5 to put himself *5:3 in the tie-break, but the last four points took Vilas, and easily controlled the outcome of the following two sets despite Sadri’s numerous unreturned serves.
