  1. Voo de Mar says:

Points won directly behind the serve:
    32 % Medvedev – 29 of 90
    23 % Rublev – 20 of 85

For the first time in history three Russians in the major quarterfinals, Medvedev [4] and Rublev [8] together in the two of the last three. Their match played under the scorching sun, in the first two sets was almost a copy of their previous meeting at US Open ’20 when after 2 hours 27 minutes Medvedev won 7-6, 6-3, 7-6. In the 2nd set of their Aussie Open clash, Rublev was playing very well at 3-all… during a point which gave him the third break point in that game, Medvedev lost his dampener. There was a break (maybe two minutes) when both players were trying to find it. It helped the older Russian who seemed to be more tired; he fought off the third BP, took the game, and Rublev sensing a repeat of their New York encounter, was discouraged after all. Physically he didn’t look well, especially in the 3rd set in which he quickly found himself at 0:4. “Andrey was definitely one of the favourites to go far in this tournament. To win this match in three sets, especially [with] how physical it was, was [an] amazing level from me. I’m really happy about it.” said Medvedev about the 2-hour 5-minute victory. Rublev was on a 9-match winning streak.
