Points won by each set: [ 29-15, 30-15, 30-23 ]
Points won directly behind the serve:
24 % Djokovic – 17 of 69
26 % Nadal – 19 of 73
Very surprising outcome because Nadal [2] advanced to the final not dropping a set. Already at the start he looked nervous, made uncharacteristic mistakes while Djokovic [1] was winning his service games at love. The Spaniard had his lone break point chance trailing 2:3 in the 3rd set, but as in majority of cases in that final, he lost a longer rally. Now Federer has won 20 majors, Nadal 17 & Djokovic 15. Given the current form of the Serb, and the fact the almost 38-year-old Federer [3] has lost his last two majors already in the fourth rounds, I expect Djokovic will finish his career having more titles than Federer & Nadal.
Djokovic’s route to his 7th (!) Australian Open title:
1 Mitchell Krueger 6-3, 6-2, 6-2
2 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 7-5, 6-4
3 Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0
4 Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-3
Q Kei Nishikori 6-1, 4-1 ret.
S Lucas Pouille 6-0, 6-2, 6-2
W Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-2, 6-3
