Points won by each set: [ 15-28, 38-29, 38-32, 49-48 ]
Points won directly on serve:
30 % Robredo – 43 of 139
13 % Gasquet – 18 of 138
Arguably the most dramatic 4-set win in Robredo’s [18] career & the most dramatic 4-set loss for Gasquet [9]. In terms of time spent on the courts (10 hours 23 minutes) it was a titanic effort for the 32-year-old Robredo to advance to the fourth round (lost in straights to Wawrinka) because he’d played 3:32h in the first two rounds (3-2 Rosol & 3-1 Benneteau – both matches in day sessions) and 3:19h vs Gasquet. Eight years before in Melbourne, something similar experienced Hrbaty (10 hours 24 minutes) winning three five-setters in a row to begin the event. Robredo achieved that unusual feat of winning three straight +3hour matches for the second time in his career (!) – at Roland Garros ’13 he spent 10 hours 35 minutes between 2R & QF to survive three consecutive five-setters from 0-2 in sets as the first man in the Open Era… Against Gasquet, he trailed 2-6, *3:4 (40/30) having no chance as a receiver, when the rain came & soon they continued indoors. The activated roof changed the tone of the match; Robredo felt more comfortable out there, serving better than ever (13 out of 16 aces after the rain) & hitting his forehand much harder to win three sets being within a few points of losing them all (4, 5, 1):
– 4:5 in the 2nd set, held at ‘love’
– 1:4 in the 3rd set (saved two mini-set points at 3:4 & clinched the set with three successive aces + service winner)
– saved two BPs at 3:4 & two SPs at 5:6 in the 4th set (inside-out forehand winners), trailed *1:4 in the tie-break before taking it 8/6
It was Robredo’s second 4-set win over Gasquet at Hisense Arena (seven years before also indoors, but the colour of the court was different).
