Points won by each set: | 35-28, 30-18, 41-32 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
20 % Djokovic – 15 of 75
24 % Murray – 27 of 109
The first of their four Aussie Open finals (lasted 2 hours 39 minutes). Djokovic’s 2nd major triumph in his fourth final at this level (he waited three years to triumph in Australia for the second time), Murray with a 0-3 record in Grand Slam finals afterwards… As Djokovic [3] led 5:4* (30/15) he won a 39-point rally and actually it was a turning point of the final because Murray [5] lost seven straight games then (six after that punishing rally). Prior to that match, Murray had defeated Djokovic three straight times. My description from the day the final was played.
Djokovic’s route to his 19th title:
1 Marcel Granollers 6-1, 6-3, 6-1
2 Ivan Dodig 7-5, 6-7(8), 6-0, 6-2
3 Viktor Troicki 6-2 ret.
4 Nicolas Almagro 6-3, 6-4, 6-0
Q Tomas Berdych 6-1, 7-6(5), 6-1
S Roger Federer 7-6(3), 7-5, 6-4
W Andy Murray 6-4, 6-2, 6-3
