The final of one of the most lucrative tournaments in the 80s, but not included to the main-level circuit, lasted 1 hour 47 minutes. Chesnokov sprained his right ankle leading 2:1* in the 2nd set. After the match he said he wanted to retire but continued to due to external pressure: “I said I cannot play anymore, but he said, Chesnokov refused to say who pressured him: “It is my secret.”
